DICENTRA
PAPAVERACEAE
Bleeding Heart has pretty cut foliage and is named for its arching stems of heart-shaped flowers in spring.
There are about 20 species originating from North America and Asia, including both hardy annuals and deciduous perennials. Many garden cultivars make good ground cover.
They grow best in humus-rich, moisture-retentive soils, in part-shade. Woodland conditions are ideal.
