Over 100 species of perennials with a wide distribution and used both as a commercial crop and medicinal.

Most are from fertile plains in sun although others are tolerant of damper growing conditions. They have tuberous roots and are mainly clump forming.

The main reason most gardeners grow this plant is because of the high nectar content, which encourages beneficial insects into the garden.

They reappear into growth very late so do not think they have died over winter.

Full sun good well drained soil.
