Evening Flower are late summer and autumn flowering perennials. Hesperantha coccinea was until recently classified on its own as Schizostylis, Kaffir Lily. It produces grass-like semi- evergreen foliage and spikes of large star-shaped flowers in white or shades of red or pink.
There are 65 species of Hesperantha, native to the South Africa.
They prefer a sunny spot, with humus-rich soil that retains moisture during the growing period. They dislike winter wet and summer drought. Deadheading by removing old flower stems to their base will prolong flowering. Plants can be divided in spring.
