Over 100 species of these shrubs, although some fall into the category of trees, both deciduous and evergreen are varieties available. None are native to Europe or Australasia or the Poles but endemic to all other parts of the world.
They were originally named after a botanist rector from Essex. Most garden varieties are from B.davidii and can become an invasive plant if allowed to self -seed.
An easy to grow shrub that requires hard pruning each season to promote new growth as it flowers on new wood.
