FRAGARIA
Rosaeae
Wild or Alpine Strawberry. There are 12 species with a wide distribution most are semi evergreen. Alkaline soils in woodland seem to be their preferred habitat.
Their growing habit of producing young plantlets from stem joints means that they colonise an area quite quickly and make good ground cover.
Dappled shade is the best position in limy soils. The fruits are edible.
