This plant has attractive cut foliage, which has a fern-like appearance. White or cream, sometimes purple-tinted, umbels are produced in summer.

There are six perennial species found from Europe to central Asia, in mountain meadowlands. Just one is found in cultivation.

They do best in sun or light shade, with well-drained but fertile soil, although will adapt well to many situations.
