Stonecrop is a large genus, grown for its fleshy, succulent foliage, which is often attractively coloured, and also for the clustered heads of small flowers, which come in a range of colours. Some are prostrate and ground-covering, while others are taller, upright plants. They are ideal for attracting butterflies and insects.
There are over 500 species, which include annuals, evergreen and deciduous perennials, sub-shrubs and shrubs, found mainly in the temperate parts of the northern hemisphere.
Most do best in full sun, with a low-nutrient, well-drained soil.
