Cinquefoil is a genus of annual, perennial and shrubby plants, which produce flowers in a wide variety of colours, often over a long period from spring to autumn.

There are over 500 species, all natives of the northern hemisphere, found in a wide range of habitats. Many of the most common garden varieties originate in Asia, especially the Himalayas.

The perennial garden types are easy to grow, most doing best in full sun, with good drainage, with some preferring a slightly more humus-rich soil.
