Nursery Diary 3rd September 2010
Developments on the Nursery: This week we have been saying goodbye to some of our members of staff Rebecca has been working with us now for 3 years and is off to pastures new and we wish her good luck in her new job Our summer students, Becky and James have also left to go back to University We will miss them all
Come along and visit the Nursery this weekend
Hardy's on the Road This weekend will see us at the National Gardening Show at Shepton Mallet, Bath & West Showground as well as Robert Hardy attending Wolverton Manor Plant Fair on the Isle of Wight
Hardy's Gardening Tip for the Week: Lots of your summer herbaceous perennials will be setting seeds so this will be the time to be collecting them whilst the weather is still good and the seed heads are dry. Make sure you collect seeds in paper bags and label clearly what you have collected Ensuring that you do not touch the seeds with your hands |

ANCHUSA
BORAGINACEAE
Alkanet flowers come in a range of blues, held above very coarse, hairy leaves.
There are 35 deciduous species, of which only a few are short-lived perennials. They come from dry sunny places in Europe, Western Asia and Africa.
A sunny, free-draining site is best, with little or no disturbance. Deadheading will encourage flowering and removal of the dead flower spike will promote basal growth.
