Known as Marjoram or Oregano, this is a well-known culinary herb that is also grown as an ornamental ground-cover plant, mostly for foliage effect.

There are about 20 species, both evergreen and deciduous, originating from the Mediterranean and southwestern Asia.

They require well-drained soil and most do best in full sun, although those with yellow foliage may benefit from some shade, to avoid scorching.
