These herbaceous mallows are related to hollyhocks, but are of smaller stature and flower.
There are 12 species, of which 3 are hardy. They are native to scrubland or seashores of Western Europe to Central Asia.
These plants are best grown in a sunny position with free draining soil. The growth can become woody, so cut to ground level in the autumn.
