The ornamental onions are sun lovers and a good addition to the border.

There are over 700 species of a deciduous nature, which are from scrubby areas in the northern hemisphere.

Tall forms are ideally used as under-planting, as this hides any untidy foliage as it dies back. A sunny position in a fertile, free-draining soil is best for all varieties.
