Daylilies produce large clumps of either evergreen or deciduous, grass-like foliage, and large lily-like flowers.
There are about 20 species in the wild, in China, Japan and Korea, which are usually red, orange or yellow. There are now thousands of hybrids and cultivars available, which come in just about every colour possible. Many are also bi-coloured or have markings on the petals.
They are easy to grow and will thrive in sun or part-shade and in any reasonable garden soil.
