Sunflowers produce yellow flowers, which are single, semi-double or fully double, from late summer into autumn.

There are about 70 species, both annual and perennial, all from North and South America, but growing in a wide variety of locations.

The perennial varieties grow best in full sun, with fertile, but well-drained soil. They do not thrive in acid conditions.
