GERBERA

GERBERA

ASTERACEAE

African Daisies or Transvaal Daisies produce large showy daisy flowers throughout the summer, in a wide range of colours. They make excellent cut flower. Most are tender, but a range of more hardy varieties has been introduced in recent years.

There are about 30 species, found growing in grassland or mountain regions across South America, Africa, Asia and Indonesia.

They are best in full sun, with very well-drained soil. The tender varieties require a frost-free environment during the winter, and are often grown as annuals. The hardier varieties may still require some protection in harsher climates.
