GALANTHUS
AMARYLLIDACEAE
Snowdrops are very popular bulbous plants, which are valued for their white, early spring flowers.
There are about 18 species, native mainly to Europe, and into Turkey, where they grow in open woodland and alpine meadows. They have also naturalised in Britain, where they were introduced some 500 years ago.
They are easy to grow in most conditions, except very damp soil, and are quite happy in sun or part shade.
