This plant has large, lobed leaves and plumes of frothy pink or white flowers, in summer.

There are just 16 deciduous species, found across the northern hemisphere in America, northern Europe and Asia.

They thrive best in bog conditions, full sun, in moist or wet soil. They will, however, tolerate a slightly drier border if given some shade.
