Show plants under lights to grow on for the first show of 2010 Nursery Diary Now that we have moved into the winter season, our busy schedule of shows and events has finished for the year and we are settling into a calmer routine of potting and re-organising the nursery ready for next year. Therefore, the nursery diary will be changing its format until the spring. Updates will still be added regularly as we move through the winter, but the weekly reports will be put on hold until the beginning of the new show season. 06/01/10 The last 24 hours has seen continuous heavy snowfall, and once again staff have found it difficult to get to work. With more on the way we have been catching up on the office jobs in the warm!! 15/01/10 With yet more snowfall this week, once again some staff were unable to get to work. However, the bad weather does mean that time has been spent improving the website. All stock availability has been updated and we will be adding more varieties as they become available later in the year. Also, look out for more detailed plant descriptions, coming up in the next few weeks. With the snow at last beginning to thaw, we hope to be able to get back to working outdoors next week! 28/01/10 This week we have brought some of the display plants intended for the first show of the year into the propagation house. This environment is kept frost-free and the plants are being given extra light to encourage them into growth. They have just three weeks before they are off to the RHS Show at Westminster. Also, lots of updating is being done on the website. There are now much more detailed descriptions for most plants and the last few will be added in the next day or two. |

Sad News We are very sad to have to announce that our beloved nursery dog Gromit died on Monday 1st February, aged 13. Despite being full of beans, as usual, during the day, when Rosy came to take him for his evening walk, he had passed away in his sleep. He liked nothing better than lying in the sun by the sales hut, where he could meet and greet every customer who came into the nursery and we are sure many of you will remember him. He was a friendly soul who loved fuss and cuddles - although he never quite lived up to his official job title of 'Guard Dog'! He always joined the staff for every tea break and made excellent use of his big brown eyes to extract a wide variety of titbits from various lunchboxes! He will be sorely missed by everyone at Hardy's.
